Personal Development Plan (PDP) is a map that our students create that will lead them towards the future they want to have. Personal Development Planning takes place during timetabled classes where students will be given the opportunity to reflect on where they are in life, where they want to go and how they are going to get there. In addition to these timetabled sessions, students can also take part in other activities and events outside of their timetable. Details of these are always published well in advance on CANVAS, their virtual learning environment.
SEWS ensures students have every opportunity to conduct their personal development planning well. Taking part in the activities which SEWS organise not only enhances a student’s skill-set, but also gives them the opportunity to meet new people and build networks which will support them in their professional life. Examples of the events they organise include Lunchtime Dialogues and Evening Seminars which bring in external experts to share their insights and experiences.
Having a strong CV and knowing how to write an effective covering letter is also part of our student’s personal development planning. SEWS run regular small group sessions which you students can join, working with and learning from other students on how to improve their own professional profile. SEWS also offer students advice on a one-to-one basis with one of our trained Employability Advisors. In order to use this service a students’ personal development plan (found on Canvas) will need to be up to date.
An appointment with an Employability Advisor can be booked by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
