IT and Learning Technology

Developing a students’ IT skills to meet the requirements of their course is essential and there is a great deal of support available for students.  For all new students in their first semester, IT Services team deliver Digital Essentials, a comprehensive training programme, to familiarise students with the systems we use. This training is delivered during timetabled classes at the start of the academic year and is accompanied by an online module in Canvas, containing useful information, links to resources and support.

The Learning Enhancement team and IT Services team also offer students training sessions, called Digi Skills, throughout the academic year on a variety of digital and online tools.  We urge students to take full advantage of these to ensure they are fully equipped for life and study in this the digital age.

Logins for all our systems are issued at the start of your course.  We issue single login to access all our systems, Canvas, the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a student’s Bloomsbury Institute email address, Timetables, Attendance Management System, Wi-Fi (Eduroam) and the Self-service Portal (SSP) which students will need to use when communicating with the Registry Division.

The official student email address starts with LON and a student’s number, i.e. LONXXXXXXXXX@bil.ac.uk. We will use this email address to communicate with students throughout their academic career with us, and not a student’s personal email address.  Using an academic email address means that information sent to students from us does not end up in their spam folder.  It is essential that students check their student email regularly for updated information.

The IT Services team maintain an online help documentation and videos on IT Support Knowledgebase, which provides information different systems.  Students will be introduced to this during their Digital Essentials training.

Staff who specialise in IT and Digital technology are always on hand to give advice in the Student Advice Hub (located on the ground floor of 7 Bedford Square).

Further information on learning technology, including Canvas, can be obtained by emailing learntech@bil.ac.uk.
