Summer activities

We’ve created a brand-new programme of Get Ahead summer activities to ease you back into face-to-face teaching next semester.

The courses and workshops are expertly designed by lecturers, support staff and external specialists to teach you something new over the summer, as well as help you prepare for the next academic year.

Now that Government restrictions have lifted, we’ll be holding some of the sessions face-to-face, whilst others will de delivered online so that you can join wherever you are based over the summer.

You can sign up to any activity, whatever your discipline or level of study, and all the activities will be run subject to minimum numbers.

Our Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success team will be delivering a range of wellbeing workshops to support you throughout the summer, helping you feel relaxed and ready for the next academic year:

Wednesday 4 August 2021, 12 – 1pm

A Family Affair – things to do during the school holidays: Wondering what you can do with your kids over the summer? This session will introduce you to a range of indoor and outdoor activities to do with the whole family during the school holidays.

Wednesday 11 August 2021, 12 – 1pm

Tired of London, Tired of life: Discover (or rediscover!) the different neighborhoods and places to visit in the Capital, perfect for a day out with friends or family.

Wednesday 18 August 2021, 12 – 1pm

Eat well, spend less: A light-hearted introduction to a few healthy recipes that are easily done in minutes, with minimal effort, without breaking the bank.

Wednesday 25 August 2021, 12 – 1pm

Mindfulness & Mental health: We’ll be exploring what is mindfulness, how does it affect our mental health and what benefits it can have for students.

Barra’s popular course returns this summer! Re-vamped and re-designed after a year and a half of online contact and conversation, the 4 week course will delve into:

  • Social media and it’s assault on good conversation.
  • Change the conversation with yourself to become the person you want to be.
  • Serendipity and how to cultivate a serendipitous mindset to your advantage.
  • “The re-socialising experiment” making conversations better around our anxiety to re-socialise

If you’re the kind of student that only needs to hear the word “assignment” and immediately have flashbacks to sleepless nights, ticking clocks and staring at web pages for hours and feeling unproductive and lost….don’t panic!

This session will guide you to success by covering the following topics:

  • Understanding the purposes and structure of university assignments
  • The strategies students can follow when approaching assignments

Join our reflective, entrepreneurial discussion with the CEO of Zamco Recruitment, a specialist recruitment agency based in Wall Street and London.

We’ll cover the basics of an entrepreneurial journey and the process of recruitment and selection from a specialist recruitment agents’ point of view.

Will you be studying Strategy, Enterprise & Innovation? Why not get ahead and take part in this introduction to the module?

You’ll have the opportunity to explore the recommended texts for the module, including:

  • Exploring Strategy: Text and Cases
  • Strategy: Theory, Practice and Implementation in which the module leader (Dr Knowledge) contributed 16 case studies and teaching notes, as a Book Reviewer and Consultant for the Oxford University Press.
