Student Charter

Our values define our culture and expectations of each other. They sometimes challenge orthodox thinking yet support the ancient ambition of education; to transform lives for the better through greater understanding.

That’s why we dare to be different.

That’s why we make things happen.

And that’s why we try our best never to be mean.

These values are embedded in our Student Charter which outlines what support students can expect from us, and our expectations of students. You can view the full charter below.

Respect• Treat you with respect and dignity at all times.
• Actively promote equality and diversity throughout our community.
• Always be reasonable, polite and inclusive.
• Secure, protect and promote the right to freedom of speech.
• Treat other students and staff with respect.
• Reject rude or aggressive behaviour.
• Show consideration for others and your surroundings (please don’t litter!).
• Uphold the right of others to freedom of speech.
Engagement• Teach interesting and relevant lessons.
• Provide opportunities like student leadership and mentoring.
• Monitor your attendance and check everything is okay if you are not coming to classes.
• Tell you about timetable changes as quickly as possible.
• Be punctual and prepared for all your classes.
• Check Canvas, Teams and your Outlook inboxes regularly
• Help us to improve our standards by completing student evaluation questionnaires.
• Take responsibility for your academic success.
• Talk to us if things get hard at home, work or classes. We can help.
Academic integrity• Help and support you to improve your academic skills both inside and outside of the classroom.
• Provide clear information about your course, assessments and all academic policy.
• Always promote the value of authentic original work.
• Intervene with any student who does not comply with academic integrity.
• Assess your work clearly and fairly.
• Give you feedback on an assessment within 20 working days of its deadline.
• Help and support you to improve your academic skills inside and outside the classroom.
• Provide clear information about your course, assessments and all academic policy.
• Always promote the value of authentic original work.

• Assess your work clearly and fairly.

Communication• Communicate with you in a clear, open and respectful way.
• Reply to your emails within two working days.
• Use your student (LON) email, SSP, Teams, phone or text message to communicate with you.
• Be respectful, honest and open when you communicate with us.
• Take no longer than two working days to reply to an email from us.
• Communicate with us using your student (LON) email, SSP, Teams, phone or text message.
Finance• Give you advice, support and guidance if you have any problems with the Student Loans Company.
• If you are a privately-funded student we can help you to develop a Tuition Fee Payment Plan.
• Keep accurate and confidential records of your financial information.
• Complete your Student Loan Company payment before starting your course, remember that we can help you to do this.
• If you are privately funded, pay the 50% tuition fee deposit before enrolment and stick to any Tuition Fee Payment Plan.
