Teaching & Learning

Keep an eye on this page for all key updates and changes to your teaching, from how your classes will be held through to where to access learning resources.

Updates

Online teaching

All teaching will take place in-person when you return for the new academic year in September 2021.

Your safety remains our top priority, and if Government advice changes in response to further outbreaks of coronavirus we may have to change these arrangements at short notice.

Teaching facilities

This year your lectures and seminars will be delivered in our brand-new building, Cambridge House. A short walk from 7 Bedford Square, Cambridge House has recently undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment. All students will have access to state-of-the-art teaching rooms and plenty of space to relax and study. The address is: 373-375 Euston Road, London, NW1 3AR, and the closest tube is Great Portland Street.

Student Guild

The Student Guild is now based at 7 Bedford Square as our Goodge Street building and Student Central have now closed.

Access to Birkbeck Library

Birkbeck Library is now open with pre-booked, socially-distanced study spaces available. If you are a holder of Birkbeck Library membership card, you can start to use the facilities.

You must book your space before visiting and also order a home testing kit before attending your booking. Please make sure you report the results online to NHS Test and Trace whether positive, negative or void. And don’t forget to follow the social distancing arrangements on site. For more information and updates, head to the Birkbeck Library website.

If you do not have a Birkbeck Library card or your membership has expired, once you have re-enrolled, you can request a new one by submitting an SSP request.

Keeping you Safe

We understand that some of you may be nervous about returning to in-person teaching. We have put in place a range of measures to help maximise your safety when you are on campus, including:

  • Excellent ventilation in teaching spaces
  • Enhanced cleaning of teaching and communal spaces
  • Hand sanitiser throughout all buildings

Please note: All students and staff must wear face masks in our buildings unless you are medically exempt. Face coverings will be available in reception should you forget or need one.

To help keep everyone safe we strongly encourage you to make sure you are fully vaccinated (i.e. 2 doses) at least two weeks before the start of the autumn term. We also ask that you take lateral flow Covid-19 tests, which are available free on campus, from the NHS or Boots and most pharmacies, twice a week.

You must not visit campus if you are feeling unwell or think you may have Covid-19 or the flu.

Ebooks

You have full access to ebooks via BOLD (Bloomsbury Institute Online Library and Databases) whilst studying from home (as well as on campus!).

You can also find the link to BOLD on Canvas, whenever you open your module materials.

For more information about how to access ProQuest eBooks and research materials on BOLD, click here.

Exams and assessments

Exams and assessments will not be run on campus and alternative arrangements have been made.

All on-site exams and time-constrained assessments (TCAs) will be conducted online through Canvas submission and quiz areas.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Your exam or TCA will be available at exactly the same time that the face-to-face exam would have started.
  • Instructions on how to complete the exam or TCA will be provided in Canvas
  • For your exam, you will submit an Exam Answer Sheet into a normal Canvas submission area.

All other assignments will be submitted online as normal.
