Our commitment to tackling racial inequality

Wednesday 10th June 2020

We stand together in condemning the horrific murder of George Floyd and adding our voice to the Black Lives Matter movement. We have always been committed to nurturing an academic community that recognises the prejudice and barriers to success that so many people of colour still face, and will use this moment as an opportunity to review and redouble our efforts to challenge inequality in higher education and beyond.

Our commitment to challenging and addressing inequality sits at the heart of our Institute, and we will continue to offer students from all backgrounds the opportunity to define and pursue success through education.

We recognise that it is not enough to simply open doors that are all too often closed to underrepresented and disadvantaged groups within higher education. This is why we focus on understanding and supporting each of our students to succeed.

We embrace and value the diversity of our academic community and the huge range of experience and perspective that it brings.

We stand against racism and all other forms of discrimination and we’ll be taking some time to listen and learn from our students and their representatives in the Student Guild to explore how we can work together to tackle racial inequality.
