Office for Students – Update
Thursday 4th July 2019
The Office for Students (OfS) is a new Government body set up to regulate the higher education sector. From 1 August 2019, students who study at colleges and universities that are on the OfS Register can access funding through the Student Loans Company.
The OfS has turned down Bloomsbury Institute’s application to join the Register based on their concern for students who do not successfully complete our degrees and the proportion of graduates who do not enter graduate employment within six months of finishing their course.
We are disappointed with this decision and believe that the OfS has failed to fully appreciate the challenges some of our students face.
The OfS decision means new applicants for the next academic year will not have SLC funding available to them.
But as the OfS have approved Bloomsbury Institute degrees for ‘teach out’ up until 2022, current students can access funding for the full duration of their studies and continue to enjoy the same high standards of teaching and support they have come to expect.
We hope that we’ll be offered a place on the new Register when we make a fresh application to the Office for Students in the next academic year.
