Let’s Grow

Let’s Grow is designed to help our students and alumni be prepared for life after graduation.

The programme aims to help every student define what success means, developing personal and professional skills using a person-centred approach. We’ll make sure that you are well-prepared to take on the challenges of postgraduate study, employment, self-employment or entrepreneurship, and lead lives that are rewarding and constructive.



Let’s Grow sits within our Centre for Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS). Additional activities are embedded within your course and outside teaching through extra-curricular activities, short courses and workshops. You can read Let’s Grow’s strategic measures here.

Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals
Starting January 2023

Bloomsbury Institute is offering postgraduate students the opportunity to enrol in this optional course that prepares them for the Microsoft AI exam (AI-900). Passing this exam earns an industry-recognised certificate in one of the most sought-after skills in the graduate job market. The course will start in January 2023, if you are interested in taking part, please register your interest below.

Tom Hawkridge from CMI will be joining Let’s Grow to deliver a session on CMI’s Career Development Centre.

The Career Development Centre is a fantastic resource, offering its members some amazing free tools to improve all aspects of employability. From CVs to elevator pitches, the CMI Career Development Centre will have something you can use to boost your professional skills.

This session will explore all the benefits you can access as a member of CMI, such as access to a host of extra resources that support you in your studies and when looking for work.

Tom Hawkridge is CMI’s Engagement Manager, and has been working with Bloomsbury Institute since 2018 delivering talks and sessions about the benefits of CMI membership.

How do I get an apprenticeship with HMRC? 

Friday, 29 October 2021, 1 – 2 PM

Location: Online via Teams

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is the UK’s tax and customs authority. Their purpose is to collect the money that pays for the country’s public services and helps families and individuals with targeted financial support.

HMRC is a major government department which offers a broad range of career paths and possibilities for tax professionals. Apprentices are a key part of HMRC’s workforce and capability, and they are committed to apprenticeship learning.

HMRC’s apprentices are not just school-leavers: there are a range of educational backgrounds and ages in the apprenticeship programme.

On Friday the 29th October, Joseph Lennox will be joining Let’s Grow to talk about his experience, and tips for how you could land an apprenticeship with HMRC. 

About the speaker

Joseph started his career at 18, when he began a government apprenticeship scheme with HMRC. He is now the Apprentice Policy Officer at HMRC in the Indirect Tax Directorate.

Let’s Grow Workshop: What are my skills?! 

Wednesday, 3 November 2021, 3 – 4 PM

What are you good at? Not sure? You’re not alone. 

It’s difficult to know what you’re good at. But being able to talk about your skills is crucial if you want to get hired. 

This workshop will take you through the key soft skills employers are looking for. It will look at hard skills, and how to develop them. And it will give you the tools you need to start talking confidently about your skills throughout your employability portfolio: from your CV to your final interview. 

This workshop will dive into:

  • What skills you have
  • Where you got them
  • How to talk about your skills
  • How to develop and gain more skills.

NHS Finance Placement Information Webinar

Wednesday, 10 November 2021, 12 – 1 PM

Location: Online via Teams

For Level 5 Accounting students: 

Through our partnership with CIMA, students have the amazing opportunity to secure a year’s paid placement with the NHS in London.

The placement will add towards CIMA’s, ACCA’s and CIPFA’s practical experience requirements.

This session will explain the placements in more detail, and outlining the entire recruitment process.

The talk will be led by:

  • Harry Mensah: Employer Relations Specialist at CIMA
  • Sotiris Kyriacou: Head of Finance Development & Professionalism at the NHS
  • Elisa Paolacci: Learning and Development Coordinator at London Skills Development Network

The talk will give you hints and tips about the application process and will provide some great insights into employment in the NHS.
