Read about Mehdi’s experience as a Law student at Bloomsbury Institute London (BIL).

Hi Mehdi, please tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Mehdi Mounsif, and I’m originally from Casablanca, Morocco. I’m currently in my third year of the LLB (Hons) Law and Legal practice program at Bloomsbury Institute London. In addition to my studies, I manage the Bloomsbury Law Clinic, where I help coordinate legal support services for the local community. I’m passionate about social justice, legal empowerment, and making the law accessible to everyone
What motivated you to pursue your LLB Law & Legal Practice at Bloomsbury Institute London (BIL)?
I was drawn to the LLB Law & Legal Practice programme at BIL because of its practical, student-centred approach and strong emphasis on employability. The diverse and inclusive environment, combined with the Institute’s location in central London, made it the ideal place to pursue both academic and personal growth. What also stood out to me was BIL’s purpose of breaking down barriers to higher education and creating opportunities for everyone, regardless of their background. Sharing a campus with Birkbeck, University of London, and being surrounded by other major universities adds to the experience. It’s most definitely an inspiring place to study and connect.
How would you describe your overall experience studying at BIL?
Studying at BIL has honestly been a really positive and eye-opening journey. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported. Lecturers are approachable and genuinely invested in how we’re doing, both academically and personally. They are always there to support you and make you comfortable asking whatever you want, no matter how silly the questions are. The smaller class sizes make it easy to ask questions and have real discussions, and the diverse student body means you’re always learning from different perspectives. It’s a place where you feel seen and heard.
Could you share some highlights you have so far at BIL?
One of the biggest highlights for me has definitely been managing the Bloomsbury Law Clinic. It’s given me a chance to take what I’ve learned in class and actually put it into practice, which has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I’ve also really enjoyed taking part in workshops and networking events, each one has helped me grow in confidence and made me feel more prepared for my future career.
People come from so many different backgrounds, but everyone’s open and easy to talk to. You don’t feel out of place and there’s always someone to connect with.

Outside of your studies, how else are you involved in BIL student life?
Outside of my studies, I’m also part of the BIL team as a Student Recruitment Executive, where I support international students throughout their journey, from the first enquiry all the way to enrolment. I work closely with students, agents, and institutions to help people make informed choices about studying here, and I also guide students through important steps like the visa process. On top of that, I attend events and exhibitions to represent BIL, both in the UK and abroad. Being both a student and a staff member gives me a unique perspective, I get to experience student life while also helping others start their own journey at BIL, which has been incredibly fulfilling.
How would you describe the student community at Bloomsbury Institute?
It’s a really friendly and down-to-earth community. People come from so many different backgrounds, but everyone’s open and easy to talk to. You don’t feel out of place and there’s always someone to connect with, whether it’s in class, at events, or just hanging out around campus.
How have the student support services and/or the student guild at BIL support you throughout your studies?
The support at BIL is genuinely strong and accessible to all students. Whether it’s academic guidance, career advice, or wellbeing support, there’s always someone available to help. The Student Guild also plays a big role in creating a welcoming and inclusive community, making sure every student feels supported and involved throughout their time at BIL. The guild also arranges different events throughout the year to bring everyone together to have a fun time and connect with each other, it also brings staff and students together which creates a special bond.
What advice would you give to other international students who are considering to come study at BIL?
I’d say don’t hesitate and just go for it. BIL is a place that really supports you from the start, especially if you’re coming from abroad. One thing that surprised me was how approachable the staff are, you’re not just a number here. If you’re applying, make sure your documents are in order early, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. There’s always someone ready to help. It’s a great environment to grow, learn, and feel part of a community.
