Read about KT’s experience as an Accounting & Finance student at Bloomsbury Institute London (BIL).

Hi KT, please tell us a bit about yourself!

My name is KT and Iโ€™m from Myanmar. I recently completed my BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance at Bloomsbury Institute London. Iโ€™ve always been passionate about understanding how businesses operate financially, and I wanted a career path thatโ€™s both structured and offers long-term growth opportunities. Thatโ€™s what drew me to Accounting and Finance. My long-term goal is to become a qualified accountant and work in a dynamic organization where I can grow both professionally and personally.

What motivated you to study at Bloomsbury Institute London (BIL)?

One of the biggest motivations for choosing Bloomsbury Institute London was the opportunity to complete my degree in just two years through the accelerated programme. This was ideal for me as it allowed me to focus more intensively on my studies and enter the job market more quickly.

The structure of the Accounting and Finance course was also a key factor. The course grants exemptions from 9 out of the 13 ACCA papers, which significantly accelerates the path towards full professional qualification. That gives me a head start in my career and saves me both time and resources.

Another strong reason was the location โ€“ Bloomsbury is based in Central London, and that truly adds to the experience. Every time I came to class, I could feel the buzz and energy of the city around me. It motivated me to push myself harder and dream bigger โ€“ to really become part of the London lifestyle and work ethic.

I also appreciated the practical support Bloomsbury Institute offered. The presence of a Student Guild, dedicated student representatives, and open support systems gave me the confidence that I would always have someone to turn to during my studies.

How would you describe your overall experience studying at BIL?

My experience at BIL has been rewarding. Itโ€™s a place where youโ€™re encouraged to grow, not just academically but personally as well. The lecturers are supportive, and the learning environment is inclusive. Iโ€™ve grown more confident in expressing my ideas and taking part in discussions, both in and outside the classroom.

Could you share some highlights you have so far at BIL?

One of the highlights was working with other students on group assignments โ€“ it helped me improve my teamwork and communication skills. Iโ€™ve also enjoyed attending workshops hosted by the Student Guild and participating in events that bring together students from different backgrounds. Itโ€™s been a great way to make friends and feel part of the BIL community.

What was your experience like moving to the UK and starting your studies at BIL as an international student?

Moving to the UK was a big change for me โ€“ from the culture to the weather! But BIL made the transition easier. There was support available at every step โ€“ from helping with enrolment to settling into student life. The lecturers and support staff are approachable, and I felt comfortable asking for help whenever I needed it. Over time, Iโ€™ve adapted and become more independent, which is something Iโ€™m really proud of.

Was there a moment when you grew (personally or professionally) during the course?

Yes. One of the biggest areas of growth for me was learning how to manage my time effectively while juggling part-time work and academic assignments. It was difficult at first, but I gradually developed strong time management and organizational skills. Another area where I grew up was my confidence in the classroom. In the beginning, I was hesitant to speak up and share my ideas. But over time, I learned to express myself more clearly and contribute actively during class discussions and group work. That personal and professional growth has stayed with me.

Outside of your studies, how else are you involved in BIL student life?

Outside of lectures, I enjoyed taking part in events and activities organised by the Student Guild. These events were a great way to meet other students, learn about different cultures, and unwind from their studies.

How would you describe the student community at Bloomsbury?

The student community at Bloomsbury is diverse, friendly, and supportive. Itโ€™s made up of people from all over the world, each bringing their own perspectives and experiences. What I liked most was how easy it was to connect with others โ€“ whether in class, during events, or just chatting in the student lounge. Everyone was open-minded and respectful, which made it easy to feel at home.

How have the student support services and/or the student guild at BIL support you throughout your studies?

The student support services have played a huge role in my success. Whether it was academic writing support, careers advice, or wellbeing resources, there was always help available. The Student Guild also made a real difference. They listened to student feedback and made sure our voices were heard. Even after completing my studies, BIL continued to support me through the mentorship programme. That helped me build the confidence I needed to start applying for graduate roles and navigate the job market in the UK.

Where do you hope to grow next โ€” even if youโ€™re still figuring out the path?

Now that Iโ€™ve graduated, Iโ€™m applying for graduate trainee accountant roles in Accounting and Finance. My goal is to gain practical experience in the industry and then work towards a professional qualification like ACCA. I want to keep developing my analytical and communication skills while building a solid foundation for a long-term career in finance. Iโ€™m still figuring out the finer details, but Iโ€™m clear on the direction โ€“ and I feel more prepared thanks to the support and education Iโ€™ve received at BIL.

What advice would you give to other international students who are considering to come study at BIL?

My advice would be, donโ€™t be afraid to take the leap. Studying in a new country can feel daunting, but Bloomsbury Institute provides a supportive and inclusive environment that really helps international students thrive. Take advantage of all the resources, get involved in student life, and donโ€™t hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Also, be open to new experiences โ€“ itโ€™s not just about getting a degree, itโ€™s about growing as a person. BIL is a great place to do both.
