I commenced my role as Head of School of Law and Director of Bloomsbury Law Clinic in August 2022. I joined Bloomsbury Institute because the Institute’s vision and values, together with their commitment to unlock the potential of every student.
My focus here is to develop and enhance the reputation and reach of the School of Law and the excellent skills focused LLB.
As Director of the Bloomsbury Law Clinic, my role is to develop the range of legal advice services we offer, increase student participation and collaborate with private and third sector partners to enhance the services we can deliver for clients in need of legal support.
For the last eight years I was at the University of Bradford’s School of Law, where I held a number of programme leadership and managerial roles. I was Deputy Head of the School for three years and set up and directed the School’s Law Clinic, which I ran for six years.
I have been a practicing barrister since completing pupillage in 2000 and have been engaged with a very broad range of civil and family work, before specialising in family law. Since 2014, I have practiced solely in matrimonial finances and trusts of land cases.
Interests
My academic interests centre on learning and teaching, curriculum design and clinical legal skills / clinical legal education. As an academic, I am constantly looking to see how educators, particularly legal educators, can deliver structured legal teaching combining the law and legal skill.
I believe that assessment is not about testing, but that it is an integral part of the teaching and learning process, enabling students to demonstrate to themselves how they have acquired knowledge and skills, and how best to deploy them in a range of circumstances.
When I am not being a lawyer, I can be found wandering the fells of Northern England or pottering around in my garden in Yorkshire.

Research
My research interests include teaching pedagogy. I also have a particular personal research interest in privacy law, media law and defamation, which I taught at my previous Institution.
