Placement Learning

Overview

Links between the experience of undertaking work placement, and benefits for both students’ longer term employability and also for their academic performance have long been reported in the employability literature (e.g. Greaves L, Mortimer M, and Wilkinson J, The Business Curriculum and Employability: Making Sense of the Employer Perspective – 2004, Thames Valley University).  Students are encouraged and supported to secure a work placement or internship, and assistance is provided for the completion of reflective assignments.

Our placement learning is assessed in a systematic way and the achievement is recorded and counted towards the completion of relevant learning outcomes for all courses.

We have a dedicated member of staff (the Employability Co-ordinator) with responsibility for liaising with and between employers and students, for supporting students in their applications for placements, and for ensuring that placements are well advertised to students.
