UK Quality Code – Assessment – Quality Control Procedures

Although we are required to follow the regulations of our awarding partners, we have devised internal processes which support these regulations.

Quality Control Procedures are applied at all stages of summative assessment, from the composition of the brief to the final grading.  It is through the application of these procedures that we ensure learning outcomes are assessed in a clear, fair and transparent way. The first feature of our quality control of the assessment process relates to the professionalism and training of our academic staff.

Alignment between our teaching and learning methods, assessment techniques, assessment criteria and the learning outcomes

We understand the requirements as highlighted in the Quality Code For Higher Education, Part B: Expectation B6:“Higher education providers operate equitable, valid and reliable processes of assessment, including for the recognition of prior learning, which enable every student to demonstrate the extent to which they have achieved the intended learning outcomes for the credit or qualification being sought.”

We ensure that there is alignment between teaching and learning methods, assessment techniques, assessment criteria and the learning outcomes.  This alignment is transparent so that students make the connection between what they are expected to know by the time they complete an individual module and how they are expected to demonstrate this.

This is achieved by:

  • Clearly informing students about the defined learning outcomes for an individual module, together with the learning outcomes for each Level (where appropriate) and the course as a whole – it should be noted that because all our courses are designed by our academic partners we are not empowered to amend the actual learning outcomes.
  • Using teaching and learning methods that are likely to ensure that the outcomes are achieved.
  • Assessing learning outcomes in a clear, fair and transparent way.
