September 2021 applicants

We intend to deliver all our classes face-to-face within our new state-of-the-art Cambridge House in Central London [Birkbeck, University of London, 373-375 Euston Road, London, NW1 3AR].

The start date for all courses is 27 September 2021, with Welcome Week taking place 20 to 24 September 2021.

If you are due to start your course in September 2021, and you are unable to travel to London in time for the start of the course (e.g. because you are in a red listed country), the following provisions will apply:

  • You can start your course by distance learning.

We will broadcast all classes live via Microsoft Teams (your timetable will incorporate the link to access the class).

For seminars and workshops you will be placed within groups so that you can interact with your Tutors and fellow students.

You will have full access to all learning materials and our online library.

You will also have full access to all our support facilities, including learning enhancement (study skills support) and pastoral support.

You should travel to London whenever you are able to in order to transition to face-to-face teaching. You must apply for a Student visa before you travel. If you come during the semester, you may need to continue to study by distance learning until we have arranged for you to join face-to-face classes. You will have full access to our campus and facilities when you are in London, whether you are studying by distance learning or face-to-face.

For students who are not taking the Foundation Year, this will include access to the library at Birkbeck College (University of London).

  • You must arrive in the UK by no later than 6 April 2022 in order to transition to face-to-face classes in order to retain all the UKVI privileges as a Sponsored Student. This includes the right to work up to 20 hours during term time and full-time during vacations, and the right to the new 2-year Graduate visa once you have completed your course.  The Graduate visa allows you to remain in the UK for up to 2 years after you have competed your course to work, or to look for work.

Although the UKVI states you must arrive in the UK by no later than 6 April 2022, our final face-to-face class is on Friday 1 April 2022.  You will therefore need to arrive in the UK by no later than Friday 18 March 2022 so that you can transition to face-to-face classes from Monday 21 March 2022.

For more information or if you are unable to start your course or attend any of your classes due to Covid-19 please contact our Compliance Manager at visa.compliance@bil.ac.uk or telephone +44(0)20 7078 8840.

Note: If you have not been issued with a CAS before you start the course, the CAS can be issued at a later date once you are able to come over to the UK. You do not need to apply for a Student visa to start your course by distance learning.
