I came here to discover something that I thought was lost to me, after 32 years of working in one company. For me, the support network in Bloomsbury is second to none – I’ve never known something to be so extensive.

Course details

About our LLM English Legal Practice course

This is a new course that we intend to offer from October 2024. Our LLM English Legal Practice is being designed with legal scholars and practicing legal professionals who wish to qualify to practice in England and Wales in mind.

Throughout our LLM, you will learn about the practical aspects of litigating in England and Wales, familiarising yourself with English legal procedure and practice. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of commencing proceedings in England and Wales and the core tenants of the English common law and procedure.

Upon completition of our LLM English Legal Practice course, you’ll be able to navigate the English and Welsh legal landscape with ease and confidence.

Assessments

We use oral assessments, presentations, simulations, group, and individual, projects in addition to traditional assessment methods (examinations and coursework) so that you can explore and express your abilities in different ways. Assessments are not just a way of assessing whether something has been learned, but an opportunity to develop skills that will equip you in your future life and career.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a degree, or other qualification that is equivalent to a UK honours degree, to study our LLM English Legal Practice course. The qualification must be in law but can be law of any jurisdiction. Work experience is not required.

Our LLM in English Legal Practice is designed for and is ideally suited to lawyers and legal scholars from outside the jurisdiction of England and Wales who wish to gain expertise in and rights to practice law in England and Wales and/or have high degree of competency in English legal procedure. Our present LLM is not suited to law graduates with a LLB in English Law.

Validated by CILEx Regulation

CILEx Regulation accredits our LLM English Legal Practice course. This means that once you graduate, you will have the knowledge and skills to become a Chartered Legal Executive and, with the appropriate work experience, you will be able to practice law in England and Wales.

Build your hours alongside your studies

You can build up the hours of practice required to register as a Chartered Legal Executive alongside your studies by volunteering at our Law Clinic which provides free advice to those who are unable to afford it.
